About the Images

Many of these photos are of buildings or scenes now demolished, or changed dramatically. The buildings may have been adaptively reused, as was the old Vancouver Library, or Canada Packers, losing it's neon sign in the process. In the Victoria Gallery, the first image is of the old Tillicum Drive In entrance, now Tillicum Mall. The 60's era painting of the woman in the blue dress, is by Alfred Semmel, painted in 1964. The Sussex Hotel was gutted, the facade saved, and is now an open area for sitting or walking through, with small shops along the streets. The frozen fountain motifs in Marks & Spencer have been relocated throughout the city.
